TOHNO REMI
The view from a window
Media: Photographs, drawings on paper, publication; digital media (Zoom workshop) / 2021
This is a collaborative project with artists who have lived experiences of mental ill-health, conducted in partnership with Project Ability, an art studio in Scotland.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had returned to Japan while studying abroad, so the workshop was held via Zoom. Participants, including those in Scotland who also could not meet in person, created drawings based on photographs I shared of the view from my home.
Afterwards, each participant drew the view from their own window, and all the drawings were compiled into a publication. The project explores how a window allows us to engage with the world from the comforts of our homes while providing a sense of protection from the pandemic.
The publication was launched during an artist talk in April 2021.
