Tracing Painful Memories
Mixed-media / Dimensions variable / 2020
This work reflects both collective and personal trauma. In this installation, two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements are covered with tracing paper and pinned to the white wall. The paper subtly flutters when visitors move around the space, creating a delicate and sensitive atmosphere.
Exploring family memories, I used photographs of my late grandmother. Her death remains the most painful experience in my life, highlighting how family experiences often carry our deepest emotions. While viewers do not know the person in the photos, they may recognize parallels with their own family memories. By sharing personal stories in an obscured form, the work transforms private grief into a universal experience, allowing the sorrow it contains to be shared without revealing specific details.
